At any cost, is it worth doing a home improvement project and not getting the results you wanted?

Many things come into play when it's time to hire a contractor to help you accomplish what it is you want (or need) to accomplish. Whether you've decided it's time to remodel the kitchen, build an addition, or waterproof a basement or crawlspace, hiring the right contractor is going to be the #1 priority, but how do you go about hiring the right contractor?

Some might ask friends for a referral, maybe ask a group on social media but the majority will go to the internet to search. No matter what, do your research. Ask them: How long have they been in business? Do they have a physical location? How many projects like this have they successfully completed in the past? Is this something they specialize in? Last but not least, don't be afraid to ask for references. 

Regardless of how you find the contractor you are interviewing, the next and arguably most important step is that both parties become crystal clear as to what the homeowner is asking the contractor to do for them. That's right, what are you asking us to accomplish for you? Are you asking us for a new sump pump in your basement or are you asking us to help you keep your basement dry ALL of the time? As you can imagine, there could be a big difference in how we would go about helping you to accomplish either of these two very different goals. 

It may seem silly, but clearly communicating your goals and ideas is essential for assuring the highest likelihood of success. In fact, communication, whether it’s poor or excellent, will be a major deciding factor in how happy you are with the outcome, and it all starts with creating a list of things you would like to accomplish.

Defining your goals and setting expectations can be done prior to your first appointment but our Project Coordinators and Specialists will take time during your meeting to review and expand upon your goals to ensure you are both clear about what you want to accomplish.  Ultimately, it’s your home and your project, which is why ensuring your goals are clearly understood is so important in getting the results you want.
